Test group AV-Comparatives has released their latest Malware
Removal Test. As the organization themselves, wrote, “This test focuses only on
the malware removal/clean capabilities…it has nothing to do with detection
rates or protection capabilities”. What
this means to the lay person, in colloquial terms, “Don’t buy an anti-malware
product on the basis of this test.”
There is something to be said for products that clean remnants up on the
system, however. It’s a relatively brief
report and only thirteen products were tested.
Only three products received three stars. In order within that group were products from
BitDefender, Kaspersky, and Panda.
Congratulations to the companies!
Two companies had products receiving one star, AVG
Technologies, and Avast. No bragging rights in the Czech Republic for either of them.
BitDefender and Kaspersky were both in the top five in the AV-Comparatives
File Detection Test of Malicious Software – September 2012, Real World
Protection Test. http://kensek.blogspot.com/2012/10/av-comparatives-file-detection-test-of.html
Kaspersky and BitDefender both received three stars in AV-comparative’s File
Detection Test of Malicious Software. This was last revised in October. This is a different test from the Malware Removal Test.
To download and read the complete Malware Removal Test
report, go to the AV-comparatives web
site. It's the end of the year. It's chilly outside. Now is the time to pull down these reports, start up a fire in the fireplace and read these. Win bar bets as to who had the best results.
